Porsche Club of America – San Diego Region: Dyno Day at JBA January 14, 2012
Posted by btucker on January 15th, 2012
JBA welcomed the San Diego Region of the Porsche Club of America to a Tech Session/Dyno Day on Saturday, January 14, 2012. The day started early with donuts, coffee and German engineering winding high on JBA’s Dyno Dynamics chassis dyno. We ran 18 or 19 cars on the dyno…three pulls each to document power-to-weight ratio for an upcoming open track event. In addition to an excellent collection of street and race-only Porsche’s, we dyno’d a BMW M3 and a little American muscle, namely a 2005 GTO and a 2007 Z06 Corvette. The dyno action only let up long enough for everyone to enjoy barbecued hot dogs, chips and drinks. Hopefully, everyone had a great time. We know the crew at JBA did! Many thanks to Jim and the PCA for a fun dyno day!
JBA Coffee & Cars – January 2012
Posted by btucker on January 08th, 2012
Bombin’ turn-out for the January 2012 edition of JBA’s Coffee & Cars! Featuring the most vehicles we’ve ever had at one of our Sunday morning get-togethers, cars overflowed our huge parking area into neighboring lots. Blue skies and burn-outs! Check out the pictures and note the wide range of vehicles, including a 1933 Riley right-hand drive sports car, an early ’50′s Chevy gasser, members of the San Diego Car Enthusiasts Club, a very strong Mopar contingent, new and old GTO’s, Chevelles, Corvettes, Cobras, Mustangs and much more. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the event. See you next month!

Great turn-out and burn-out this morning at JBA’s Coffee & Cars on the Mesa. Lots of cool rides and even nicer people. Hot coffee, donuts and dyno pulls thawed the chill. Check out the pictures for more of the story!

Another fine turnout for hot coffee, hi-cal donuts and cool cars. Big thank you to the Challengers for the burn-outs, and to everyone who brings their machines out for the morning. We got rollin’ around 7am and before you knew, it was 10am and folks were headed for their next destination. If you’re in the San Diego area and haven’t caught one of JBA’s Coffee & Cars get-togethers, next up is December 11th, 2011. Browse through the images for more of the story. Thanks!
SCTA Speed Trials at El Mirage November 12, 2011
Posted by btucker on November 21st, 2011
It was the last meet of the 2011 season for the Southern California Timing Assocation (SCTA) and its land speed racing members. As usual, the season points chase for number one came down to the November two-day meet. If you weren’t setting records all season, you weren’t going to be number one. As it worked out, the #827 roadster with its turbocharged Hayabusa power came out on top. And for the sixth year in a row (sorry Jimmie Johnson), the San Diego Roadster Club won the points competition among the SCTA clubs. It rained on Friday night but the lake bed ate it up and the SCTA volunteers provided two days of speed trials on November 12 and 13. For more of the story, check out the pictures. See ya next year at El Mirage!
JBA Coffee & Cars October 2011
Posted by btucker on October 09th, 2011
Hot coffee and cool cars at JBA this morning. Always surprises and today was no exception! How about a turbocharged El Camino? Or an Allen-supercharged Police Interceptor? Or a ’54 Studebaker with a 348 Chevy? The trees around JBA are all changing colors and might make you think San Diego has seasons! Many thanks to all our friends who came out for our October Coffee & Cars. See the pictures for more of the story!
Mustangs by the Bay – October 2, 2011

Big thanks to the Mustang Club of San Diego for another great car show! Embarcadero Park North is an amazing location…with rolling lawn-covered hills situated between San Diego Harbor and the Marina. JBA’s booth was busy all day with lots of friends stopping by. The Boy Scouts of Troop 11 provided a steady-supply of refreshments. And of course, the show featured over 300 cars to look at, talk about and listen to. Check out the pictures for more of the story.
14th Annual Coronado Speed Festival — September 24-25, 2011
Posted by btucker on September 27th, 2011
This event never disappoints. With more than 250 vintage race cars gathered in one location, how could it? When you toss in San Diego weather, military displays, drifters, fly-bys, Leap Frogs, the Car Corral, music, food, vendor boothes and more, there is truly something for everyone! The cars compete in nine race groups on the runways and taxiways of North Island Naval Air Station, Coronado. Team JBA had a great time and the #29 1968 Trans-Am Mustang driven by J. Bittle had its moments of glory. And JBA must have served around 200 hot dogs on Saturday and another 200 on Sunday! Be sure to add this event to your must-do list for next year. Competition Sway Bar Improves 2011 Mustang GT Handling
Posted by btucker on September 21st, 2011
Jan Wagner is an avid autocrosser and also co-hosts the weekly “You Auto Know” show (from 8-9PM on Sunday evenings with Dave Stall) on KCBQ AM 1170. JBA recently installed a Steeda competition front sway bar on Jan’s 2011 Mustang GT. Here are Jan’s thoughts on the results: “The Steeda Competition front bar surprised me because it does not seem to have had any negative effect in terms of ride quality on the street. On the track is where its presence became apparent. I noticed that in hard cornering there was considerably less drama. I had the sense that I was not fighting the car nearly as much as I had been before. Despite the common wisdom about what happens when a large front swaybar is used, I think my car actually understeered less, which was my hope – my thoughts being that with significantly less front end lean, the load would be shared amongst both front tires instead of mostly by the outside one.” We’ve attached a few pictures of Jan’s Mustang on-track courtesy of Impressions by Elliot Photography.
Wavecrest Woodie Show — September 17, 2011
Posted by btucker on September 18th, 2011
Wavecrest is a great North County tradition. The largest gathering of woodies on the West Coast…or maybe anywhere…is held annually at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, CA. If you’ve never made it to the show, add it to your bucket list!
