The Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) kicked off their 2012 land speed racing season with the traditional two-day meet at El Mirage Dry Lake on May 19th and 20th. The weather was fine, despite a headwind on Saturday. You know, at El Mirage, it’s never hot, windy or dusty! The SanDiego Roadster Club (SDRC) turned out with fast cars and bikes and bumped quite a few records. Two of our members joined the uber-exclusive Dirty 2 Club by breaking records over 200 mph on the dirt. SDRC is going for the SCTA club points championship for the 7th year in a row. All in all, a very good lakes meet. See the pictures for more of the story.Read More

It was the last meet of the 2011 season for the Southern California Timing Assocation (SCTA) and its land speed racing members. As usual, the season points chase for number one came down to the November two-day meet. If you weren’t setting records all season, you weren’t going to be number one. As it worked out, the #827 roadster with its turbocharged Hayabusa power came out on top. And for the sixth year in a row (sorry Jimmie Johnson), the San Diego Roadster Club won the points competition among the SCTA clubs. It rained on Friday night but the lake bed ate it up and the SCTA volunteers provided two days of speed trials on November 12 and 13. For more of the story, check out the pictures. See ya next year at El Mirage!Read More
Mucho thanks to everyone that rolled into JBA this morning for coffee, donuts and most of all, cars! Another good turnout. Pick of the morning was the really slick Studebaker with a Bonneville license plate frame that reflects the great land speed racing heritage of the Studebaker marque. Check out the pictures of the engine compartment (348 or 409?), the interior and pin striping. Another highlight was J. Bittle’s lap around the parking lot in his historic 1968 Mustang Trans Am race car. You had to be there to see and hear it (although there may be some videos floating around). Then again, if you were anywhere in Kearny Mesa you could have heard it! See the pix for more of the story and we’ll look for you on Sunday morning August 14th for our next Coffee & Cars!
JBA made the run up to El Mirage for the two-day season opener May 15-16 and hung out with our favorite land speed racing club—the San Diego Roadster Club. Not to toot SDRC’s horn too loud, but four club season championships in a row. ‘Nuff said. Lots of fast cars and bikes hauling ass on the dirt. SDRC club member John Noonan made the fastest two-wheel run ever at El Mirage on his ‘Busa…242 mph! Whoa. See the pictures for more of the story. -Bruce TuckerRead More
